Birds and Wetlands of Chokecherry Hollow

Wetlands are the heart of both forest and open country habitats. Large populations of diverse plants and animals including those that can be found nowhere else thrive in these beautiful places. Although often a harsh environment, the abundant wildlife activity proves how productive wetland areas are.

This DVD provides a close look at some of the many birds and mammals that depend on these steadily declining natural ecosystems for survival.

A few of the nesting water/marsh birds shown are Black Terns, Sora Rails, Coots, Grebes, Geese, Ducks, Red-winged and Yellow-headed Blackbirds. You will see birds that require a mixture of marsh, grass and woodland for their home territories; i.e. Ruby-throated Hummingbirds, Catbirds, White-throated Sparrows, Northern Flickers and Warblers.

Watch a male Northern Goshawk feeding on his snowshoe hare prey. A male Northern Oriole spends time removing parasitic larvae from one of his fledglings. Resting and feeding Sandhill Cranes greet you with echoing calls. Enjoy the graceful soaring flight of White Pelicans and much more.

Wetlands

are

Nature

at its Best

"Photographing and describing even a small part of wetlands is a huge task. If we have helped explain how important they are to the future of wildlife, our work has been worthwhile."
